Island County Fire District #3 was established by local community volunteers in 1950. Still relying heavily on our team of volunteers, we proudly serve the citizens of South Whidbey Island.

We are an active department. We conduct extensive training and educational outreach, while also answering an average of five emergency calls per calendar day. In 2008, we responded to 1,913 emergency requests: Fire, Medical, Marine, & High Angle Rescue calls.

Volunteer Ribbon

We have six stations located in: Freeland, Bayview, Langley, Saratoga, Clinton and Maxwelton. Our district covers 57 miles of shoreline and 66 square miles of South Whidbey Island.

Island County Fire District #3 is rated by Washington State Rating Bureau as a Class 7 for fire protection, which means better insurance rates for most of our community homeowners.

STRATEGIC PLAN

After several meetings with commissioners, staff and senior officers, Island County Fire District #3 created a Strategic Plan. The plan was officially adopted by the Fire Commissioners and put into action on February 8, 2007. More than just a document, this plan serves as a road map to help guide the critical planning decisions we make on behalf of the local community. The plan drives the decision making so that we can continue to provide a high level of service at a minimal taxpayer cost.

The District operates on one of the lowest tax rates in the state and with good planning we will continue to provide the best service possible with the tax dollars we receive. We encourage you to read the current Strategic Plan and invite you to learn more about how to participate in the activities of South Whidbey Fire and Rescue.
